Buying a smartphone on EMI in India has become normal for most people, and honestly, it is easy to see why. Paying ₹79,900 in one shot for an iPhone 16 is difficult for many salaried buyers. But paying ₹7,249 per month over 12 months feels far more manageable. What many people do not notice is everything added in between: ₹7,093 in total interest, a ₹589 processing fee plus 18% GST, and sometimes even a ₹4,000 instant discount that disappears the moment you choose EMI. By the end of the loan, you could end up paying close to ₹88,000 for a phone that originally costs ₹79,900.

This mobile EMI calculator is designed to show you the complete cost before you decide to buy. Just enter the phone model, choose your financing option, and select the repayment plan. The calculator instantly shows your monthly EMI, total interest, effective annual rate, tenure comparison, platform-wise cost breakdown, and even the actual cost behind so-called zero cost EMI offers, including processing fees, GST, and any discounts you may lose by choosing EMI. It supports all major smartphone brands in India, including iPhone, Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Redmi, Realme, Nothing, Google Pixel, Motorola, OPPO, and Vivo.

Most smartphone EMI calculators ask for three inputs and give you one output: your monthly EMI. That tells you whether the number fits your budget. It does not tell you whether the deal is good, which platform costs less, whether zero cost EMI is actually free, or whether buying this phone on a 24-month plan means you are still paying for it when the next generation launches. Here is what this calculator reveals that others hide.

Zero cost EMI truth analyser — reveals the real rate

Zero cost EMI is the most misunderstood product in Indian consumer finance. Banks and platforms charge a processing fee upfront (Bajaj Finserv typically ₹499) and add 18% GST on that fee. Online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart often remove the instant bank discount when you choose EMI instead of paying in full. Enter your processing fee and any forfeited cashback and the calculator computes the effective annual interest rate you are actually paying. On a ₹64,900 iPhone 16 loan for 6 months, a ₹499 processing fee plus ₹89 GST plus a ₹4,000 forfeited discount adds up to ₹4,589 in hidden cost, making the effective rate 14.1% per annum. Not zero.

Platform comparison table — Bajaj vs credit card vs Pay Later

For the same phone and the same repayment period, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC credit card EMI, Amazon Pay EMI, and Flipkart Pay Later can all end up costing very different amounts because of their interest rates and processing charges. On a ₹79,900 phone over 12 months, the total repayment can range from around ₹85,872 with HDFC credit card EMI to nearly ₹90,664 with Flipkart Pay Later. That is almost a ₹5,000 difference for the exact same phone. The platform comparison table automatically shows these differences based on the phone price and tenure you choose.

Phone database with 50+ models — search instead of typing a price

Just type a phone name like iPhone 16 or Samsung S25 and the calculator will automatically pick the latest price from the database. It includes more than 50 popular smartphone models from major brands sold in India, including iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Redmi, Realme, Nothing, Google Pixel, Motorola, OPPO, and Vivo. Each phone is also labelled as budget, mid-range, premium, or flagship, making it easier to understand whether the EMI actually suits your budget and spending comfort.

Budget reverse calculator — find phones your EMI can afford

Switch to "Find Phones in My Budget" mode, enter your monthly EMI budget, and the calculator works backwards to show every phone in the database that fits within your range at the selected rate and tenure. At ₹2,000 per month for 12 months at 16%, your maximum affordable phone price (with a ₹5,000 down payment) is approximately ₹27,043. Matching phones appear ranked by price so you can choose the best available model within your budget.

Exchange and trade-in value correctly reduces your loan

When you trade in an old phone, the exchange value directly reduces the loan amount and therefore the total interest. A ₹5,000 exchange value on a ₹64,900 loan at 16% for 12 months saves approximately ₹450 in interest over the tenure. The calculator shows this saving explicitly so you can see whether the exchange offer your retailer quotes is worth accepting or whether selling your old phone independently would yield more.

Affordability check with EMI as percentage of income

Enter your monthly take-home income and the calculator shows your EMI as a percentage with a colour-coded health bar. A phone EMI should ideally stay below 5% of monthly income. Between 5 and 10% is manageable. Above 10% is stretched. For an iPhone 16 at full price on 12-month Bajaj Finance EMI of ₹7,249 per month, that is 12.1% of a ₹60,000 salary — the health bar turns red and flags this explicitly.

About the phone database: Prices in the database reflect May 2026 MRP across major brands. Actual prices may differ on Amazon, Flipkart, or retail stores due to ongoing sales, exchange offers, and bank discounts. Always verify the current price on the retailer's website before finalising. You can also use the "Enter Price Manually" mode if you have a specific deal price that differs from the MRP listed here.

Every bank, NBFC, and financing platform in India uses the same standard EMI formula for regular EMI plans. The formula applies to Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, SBI, ICICI, and every other lender's consumer durable loan product. Understanding it lets you verify any quoted EMI and spot errors before signing.

Standard Mobile EMI Formula (Reducing Balance)
EMI = [P × R × (1 + R)^N] ÷ [(1 + R)^N − 1]
  • P = Loan amount (phone price minus down payment minus exchange value)
  • R = Monthly interest rate = Annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100
  • N = Tenure in months (6, 9, 12, 18, or 24)

This is the reducing balance method. Each month, interest is calculated on the outstanding principal (which reduces as you pay EMIs), not on the original loan amount. This is why your first EMI has a higher interest component and your last EMI has almost entirely principal. The total interest you pay reduces if you prepay early, because the balance the interest is calculated on shrinks faster.

Zero Cost EMI — How the Real Rate Is Calculated
Monthly EMI = Loan Amount ÷ Tenure (no interest added) Hidden Cost = Processing Fee + GST on Fee + Forfeited Discount Effective Rate = (Hidden Cost ÷ Loan Amount) ÷ (Tenure ÷ 12) × 100
  • The EMI itself is truly zero-interest — you pay equal instalments of the principal each month
  • The hidden cost is what you pay through fees and forfeited discounts, not the EMI itself
  • Annualising this hidden cost reveals the effective interest rate embedded in the "free" offer

SEBI and RBI have repeatedly clarified that zero cost EMI involves cost recovery through other means. The RBI's guidelines on consumer credit disclosures require lenders to show the effective annual rate on all loan products. If your zero cost EMI offer does not show an APR (Annual Percentage Rate), ask for it before agreeing.

Credit Card EMI — Slightly Different Mechanics
EMI = [P × R × (1 + R)^N] ÷ [(1 + R)^N − 1] (same formula)
  • Calculated identically to regular EMI but interest is typically lower (13 to 15% vs 18 to 24% for Bajaj/NBFC)
  • Your credit card limit is blocked by the outstanding loan amount for the tenure
  • Foreclosure (prepayment) is allowed but typically attracts a 3 to 5% charge on the outstanding balance
  • Missing an EMI can impact your CIBIL score unlike a debit transaction

Credit card EMI is usually the cheapest standard EMI option for buyers who already own a credit card with sufficient limit. HDFC and ICICI Bank currently offer credit card EMI on smartphones at 13% per annum, which is significantly lower than Bajaj Finserv's consumer durable loan rates of 18 to 24%.

iPhone 16 EMI Calculator — ₹79,900 with ₹10,000 Down and ₹5,000 Exchange
Price: ₹79,900 | Down Payment: ₹10,000 | Exchange: ₹5,000 | Loan: ₹64,900 | Rate: 16% | Tenure: 12 months
  • Monthly EMI: ₹5,888 per month
  • Total interest: ₹5,761
  • Total you pay: ₹85,661 (phone + all interest + processing fee)
  • Same iPhone on HDFC credit card at 13%: EMI ₹5,797 | Total interest ₹4,660 | Saves ₹1,101 vs 16% loan
  • Zero cost EMI version (6 months, ₹499 fee, ₹4,000 discount forfeited): EMI ₹10,817 | Effective rate 14.1% p.a. | Hidden cost ₹4,589

Can you afford an iPhone on a ₹60,000 salary? At ₹5,888 per month EMI, that is 9.8% of income — within the moderate range. At the full phone price (₹79,900) with no down payment and Bajaj Finance at 18% for 12 months, the EMI jumps to ₹7,325 — 12.2% of income, which the affordability bar flags as stretched. A ₹10,000 down payment and the ₹5,000 exchange offer together save ₹1,100 in total interest and bring the EMI to a more comfortable level.

Samsung Galaxy S25 EMI Calculator — Bajaj Finance vs HDFC Credit Card
Price: ₹80,999 | No down payment | Bajaj Finance: 18% | HDFC Credit Card: 13% | Tenure: 12 months
  • Bajaj Finance EMI at 18%: ₹7,426 per month | Total interest: ₹8,113 | Total repayment: ₹89,112
  • HDFC Credit Card EMI at 13%: ₹7,235 per month | Total interest: ₹5,816 | Total repayment: ₹86,815
  • Saving by choosing HDFC over Bajaj: ₹2,297 in total interest on the same 12-month plan
  • Flipkart Pay Later at 24%: ₹7,555 per month | Total interest: ₹10,764 | Total: ₹91,763

The Samsung Galaxy S25 is one of the most searched smartphones for EMI options in India. The difference between the cheapest financing option (HDFC credit card at 13%) and the most expensive shown here (Flipkart Pay Later at 24%) is ₹4,948 in total interest on the same phone over the same 12 months. That gap is worth the two-minute check this calculator takes. Enable "Compare EMI across financing platforms" in Advanced Options to see this table automatically for any phone price.

Budget Phone EMI — Redmi 14C ₹11,999, Bajaj Finance, 6 Months
Price: ₹11,999 | No down payment | Rate: 18% | Tenure: 6 months
  • Monthly EMI: ₹2,106 per month
  • Total interest: ₹638
  • Total repayment: ₹12,637
  • vs buying outright: ₹638 extra for the convenience of spreading the cost

For budget phones under ₹15,000, the total interest on a 6-month EMI at typical rates is relatively small in absolute terms. On a ₹11,999 phone at 18% for 6 months, the extra cost is ₹638 — roughly the price of a meal. If you are choosing EMI purely for cash flow management and the total interest is below ₹1,000, it is a reasonable trade-off. For phones above ₹30,000, the interest arithmetic changes significantly and the platform comparison becomes more important.

iPhones are the most searched product for EMI calculations in India, and the search intent is straightforward: "Is this phone within my budget if I stretch the payment over 12 months?" The table below answers that question directly for the current iPhone lineup at two common salary levels, using a 12-month EMI at 13% (HDFC credit card rate) with no down payment. These numbers come directly from this calculator.

iPhone Model MRP (India) EMI at 13%, 12 mo Total Cost % of ₹50k Salary % of ₹80k Salary
iPhone 13₹49,900₹4,459/mo₹53,5058.9%5.6%

iPhone 16 Pro Max₹1,44,900₹12,944/mo₹1,55,32825.9%16.2%

The general guideline for phone EMI as a percentage of income is to keep it below 5% for comfort, 5 to 10% for a manageable stretch, and above 10% is financially stressed. On a ₹50,000 salary, an iPhone 16 EMI of ₹7,136 is 14.3% of income — a significant commitment. On a ₹80,000 salary, the same phone sits at 8.9%, which is more manageable. A ₹15,000 down payment on an iPhone 16 brings the loan to ₹64,900 and the EMI to ₹5,797 at 13% — 11.6% of a ₹50k salary. Enter your exact income in the calculator's Advanced Options section to see the affordability rating for your specific situation.

Samsung is the most purchased smartphone brand in India and covers every segment from ₹13,999 for the Galaxy M15 5G to ₹1,29,999 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The EMI arithmetic changes significantly across these segments. The table below shows Samsung Galaxy EMI at 16% (typical Bajaj Finance rate) for 12 months across the current lineup.

Samsung Model MRP EMI 12 mo (16%) Total Interest Total Cost
Galaxy M15 5G₹13,999₹1,271/mo₹1,247₹15,246

Galaxy S25 Ultra₹1,29,999₹11,800/mo₹11,595₹1,41,594

Step 1: Choose your input method

Three modes are available. Search by Model lets you type a phone name from the database. you can select any phone like iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Redmi, Realme, Nothing, Motorola, Google Pixel, OPPO, or Vivo. Enter Price Manually lets you enter any MRP or sale price, useful for phones on discount or models not yet in the database. Find Phones in My Budget reverses the calculation: you enter your monthly EMI budget and the calculator finds matching phones.

Step 2: Select your EMI type

Regular EMI covers standard interest-bearing loans from Bajaj Finance, NBFCs, or consumer durable loan schemes. Zero Cost EMI reveals what you are actually paying through hidden charges — enter the processing fee and any cashback you are giving up. Credit Card EMI handles bank credit card conversion at the lower bank rates (typically 13 to 15% versus Bajaj's 18 to 24%). The correct formula runs automatically for the type you select.

Step 3: Enter down payment and exchange value

Both reduce your loan amount directly. A ₹5,000 exchange offer and a ₹10,000 down payment on an ₹80,000 phone reduces the loan to ₹65,000, saving you approximately ₹1,500 in total interest at 16% over 12 months. To understand how much the exchange offer actually saves you, compare the calculator results with and without the exchange value. Then compare that saving against what you might get selling the old phone independently.

Step 4: Set interest rate and tenure

If you already have a financing quote, enter the rate from your lender. If not: Bajaj Finance ranges from 14 to 24% for consumer durable loans. HDFC credit card EMI is typically 13 to 15%. SBI and ICICI are usually 13 to 16%. Amazon Pay EMI and Flipkart Pay Later typically run at 22 to 24%. For tenure, the tenure comparison table in the results shows all options from 3 to 24 months so you can see the EMI and total cost trade-off without running the calculator separately for each.

Step 5: Use Advanced Options for full picture

Enter your monthly take-home income to see the affordability health bar. Enable "Compare EMI across financing platforms" to automatically generate the platform comparison table. GST on processing fee defaults to 18% which is correct under current Indian tax rules . Do not change this unless you have specific information otherwise. All platform comparison data, affordability ratings, and zero cost EMI hidden cost calculations update immediately with these inputs.

The table below is the exact output this calculator produces for iPhone 16 at ₹79,900 with no down payment, at 16% per annum. It shows why choosing a longer tenure feels attractive but costs significantly more.

Tenure Monthly EMI Total Interest Extra vs Cash Price Best For
3 months Lowest Cost₹27,347/mo₹2,140₹2,140Lowest total interest
6 months₹13,945/mo₹3,770₹3,770Good balance
9 months₹9,480/mo₹5,421₹5,421Moderate EMI

18 months₹5,022/mo₹10,500₹10,500Lower EMI needed
24 months₹3,912/mo₹13,992₹13,992Tightest budget

On a 24-month plan for an ₹79,900 iPhone 16 at 16%, you pay ₹13,992 extra in interest. That is 17.5% above the phone's MRP. By the time the loan ends, the iPhone 16 will be two hardware generations old, the iPhone 18 will be available, and your phone's resale value will have dropped to ₹30,000 to ₹40,000. Avoid 18 to 24-month EMI plans on flagship phones unless the alternative is genuinely unmanageable. For tracking your complete monthly budget including this EMI, use our income and expense planner.

For an ₹79,900 iPhone 16 at 12-month EMI with no down payment, here is exactly what each major platform charges. These are the figures the calculator's platform comparison table produces — enter the same phone price and tenure above with the platform comparison toggle enabled.

At 13% interest for 12 months with no down payment, the iPhone 16 at ₹79,900 has an EMI of ₹7,136 per month. To keep this below 10% of take-home income, you need a monthly salary of at least ₹72,000. If you have a ₹15,000 down payment available, the loan drops to ₹64,900 and the EMI falls to ₹5,797 — manageable at around ₹58,000 monthly income. With a ₹20,000 exchange offer additionally, the loan drops further and the EMI becomes about ₹5,349, achievable on ₹53,000 monthly income. Enter your exact income and down payment in the calculator above for your specific figure.

Zero cost EMI is not free. Banks and platforms recover their interest cost through one or more of these methods: a processing fee charged upfront (Bajaj Finserv typically ₹499 plus 18% GST), withholding a bank cashback or instant discount that full-payment buyers receive (often 5 to 10% of the phone price), or a combination of both. On an iPhone 16 loan of ₹64,900 for 6 months with a ₹499 processing fee, ₹89 GST, and ₹4,000 forfeited cashback, the effective annual interest rate works out to 14.1% per annum. Enter your specific processing fee and forfeited discount in the Zero Cost EMI section of the calculator to see your exact effective rate.

For most buyers with a credit card that has sufficient limit, credit card EMI is cheaper than Bajaj Finance. HDFC and ICICI offer credit card EMI on consumer electronics at 13% per annum. Bajaj Finance's consumer durable loan rates typically range from 14 to 24% depending on the scheme. On an ₹80,999 Samsung Galaxy S25 for 12 months, Bajaj Finance at 18% totals ₹89,112 versus HDFC credit card at 13% totalling ₹86,815 — a ₹2,297 difference for the same phone. Bajaj Finance's advantage is that it does not require a credit card. If you do not own a credit card or your credit limit is insufficient, Bajaj or debit card EMI are the realistic alternatives.

Every lender in India uses the same standard reducing balance EMI formula: EMI = [P × R × (1+R)^N] ÷ [(1+R)^N − 1], where P is the loan amount (phone price minus down payment), R is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and N is the tenure in months. For a ₹50,000 phone with no down payment at 16% for 12 months: R = 0.01333, N = 12, EMI = ₹4,536. Total interest = ₹4,536 × 12 minus ₹50,000 = ₹4,431. This same formula applies to Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, SBI, ICICI, and every other consumer durable lender. The only difference between lenders is the interest rate and any upfront processing fee.

For flagship phones above ₹60,000, a 12-month plan is almost always the better choice. The difference in monthly EMI between 12 and 24 months on an ₹80,000 phone at 16% is approximately ₹3,337 per month. But the difference in total interest is ₹6,899 more on the 24-month plan. Beyond cost, a 24-month plan means you own a 2-year-old flagship phone outright just as the next generation arrives — with your old phone worth substantially less than you paid. If the 12-month EMI is genuinely unaffordable on your income, a larger down payment or a mid-range phone at a lower price point is a more financially sound choice than stretching to 24 months on a flagship.

Yes. Any EMI-based financing that involves a loan — including Bajaj Finance consumer durable loans and credit card EMI conversions — is reported to credit bureaus and affects your CIBIL score. Paying EMIs on time every month adds a positive repayment record and can improve your score over the tenure. Missing an EMI or paying late can damage it. If you are planning to apply for a home loan, car loan, or any significant credit product in the next 12 to 18 months, your total EMI load including this phone EMI will be counted in your FOIR (Fixed Obligation to Income Ratio) calculation. Use our loan eligibility checker to see how a running phone EMI reduces your eligible home or car loan amount.

Mathematically, buying outright saves you the interest cost — on an ₹80,000 phone at 16% for 12 months, that is approximately ₹7,200 you keep. The question is what you do with your money during the saving period. If it sits in a savings account earning 3.5%, saving for 6 months costs you opportunity rather than helping you. If the savings go into a liquid mutual fund or FD earning 6 to 7%, the comparison narrows. The practical reality for most salaried buyers in India is that saving ₹80,000 takes 8 to 12 months while your current phone may be unusable. A 6-month EMI plan at ₹13,945 per month on a 16% rate adds ₹3,770 in interest — a reasonable cost if your current phone genuinely cannot last another 8 months. Use our SIP calculator to model how saving your expected phone EMI amount monthly compares against the interest cost of the loan.
