Trip Budget Calculator India
Discover travel destinations based on your budget
Enter your trip details to find matching destinations
We match your budget, travel style and preferences against 30 Indian destinations with verified 2025 hotel, food and activity prices.
Planning a trip in India used to mean guessing. Search for Goa hotels, open a separate tab for Manali activities, try to add everything in a spreadsheet, and still have no idea if ₹30,000 is enough or not. This trip budget calculator India changes that entire process. Enter your total budget, travel style, number of days and people, and the tool immediately tells you which destinations you can actually afford with hotel rates, food costs and activity prices broken down for each one.
Most people discover after booking that the trip cost far more than expected because the internet gives you best-case figures. This tool gives you a realistic range minimum to maximum based on the accommodation tier you select and the actual going rates from MakeMyTrip, Booking.com and Thrillophilia for 2025. It also covers budget travel destinations India-wide across 25 destinations from Goa and Manali to Andaman and Spiti Valley.
Why This Travel Budget Calculator India Is Different From Others
Every standard India travel budget planner works the same way: you enter a place name and it shows you generic averages that may be 2 years out of date. None of them ask about your travel style. None tell you whether your specific budget is enough for that place. And none show you a list of matching destinations based on your preferences. This tool does all three simultaneously.
Matches destinations to your budget, not the other way around
Standard travel tools make you pick a destination first, then show you costs. This india trip cost calculator and destination budget estimator works in reverse. Enter your budget and preferences — it ranks 25 destinations by how well they fit your money, travel style and group size. You never start from a destination that is out of reach.
Three-part cost breakdown for every destination
Hotel, food and transport are shown separately for each destination, not combined into a single vague figure. Every activity lists an individual 2025 price so you can add only what you want. The estimate shows the minimum-to-maximum range for essentials, which is far more useful than a single average number that no trip actually hits.
Filters by experience type and trip style
Select Beach, Hills, Adventure, Spiritual, Heritage, Snowfall, Wildlife, Backwaters, Nightlife, Nature, Desert or Offbeat. Select Honeymoon, Family, Solo or Friends. The scoring algorithm matches your preferences against 25 destinations and ranks them in order of fit. A trip budget planner for couples gets very different results from a solo offbeat trip with the same budget.
2025 verified prices not blog estimates
Hotel ranges are cross-checked against live MakeMyTrip and Booking.com listings for 2025. Activity prices are verified from Thrillophilia and operator websites. Food costs are cross-referenced with Zomato data. Most travel cost websites pull from old blog posts, This tool uses current market rates that actually reflect what you will pay.
What the estimate covers and what it does not: The cost range shown for each destination covers hotel, food and local transport only. Activities, entry fees, travel to the destination (flights or trains), travel insurance and shopping are not included. These are pay-as-you-choose on the trip. Activity prices are listed individually under each destination so you can estimate those separately based on what interests you.
The Formula This Calculator Uses
The trip cost estimation and destination scoring each use a separate formula. Understanding both tells you exactly why certain destinations rank higher than others for your inputs.
Rooms = ceil(People ÷ 2)
Total Min = (Hotel Min × Rooms × Days) + (Food Min × People × Days) + (Transport Min × Days)
Total Max = (Hotel Max × Rooms × Days) + (Food Max × People × Days) + (Transport Max × Days)- Hotel Min/Max— per-night range for selected accommodation tier (Budget / Economy / Standard / Luxury)
- Food Min/Max— per-person per-day food range for that tier (local dhabas to sit-down restaurants)
- Transport Min/Max— per-day local transport range (shared auto to private cab, per the tier)
- Rooms— calculated as ceiling of People ÷ 2, assuming 2 people per room
For a solo traveller, Rooms = 1. For 3 people, Rooms = 2. For 4 people, Rooms = 2. This keeps the hotel estimate realistic for how groups actually travel.
Score = Feature Match Score + Trip Type Bonus + Budget Score- Feature Match Score (fm)— matched features ÷ selected features. If you select Beach and Adventure and a destination has both, fm = 1.0. If only one matches, fm = 0.5
- Trip Type Bonus (tb)— +0.15 if the destination suits your selected trip type (Honeymoon / Family / Solo / Friends). 0 if not listed
- Budget Score (bs)— 1.0 if your budget covers the minimum estimate. 0.60 if budget is within 18% short. 0.25 if budget is more than 30% below minimum
Maximum possible score is 2.15 (perfect feature match + trip type fit + comfortable budget). Destinations are sorted highest to lowest score and the top 6 are shown.
How to Use This Trip Expense Calculator Step by Step
Four inputs, one click, instant results. Here is exactly what each field means and what to enter.
Step 1: Enter trip type, budget, days and people
Select whether this is a Honeymoon, Family, Solo or Friends trip. This affects which destinations the algorithm prioritises. Enter your total cash budget for the entire trip excluding travel to the destination. Enter the number of days you plan to stay and the number of people travelling together. For a couple travelling for 5 days with ₹50,000 total, enter exactly those values.
Step 2: Choose accommodation style
Budget covers hostel dormitories, OYO-type guesthouses and ashrams at ₹500 to ₹1,200 per night. Economy covers clean AC rooms and standard hotels at ₹1,200 to ₹2,500. Standard is 3-star and boutique properties from ₹2,500 to ₹6,000. Luxury covers 4 and 5-star resorts and heritage palace hotels from ₹6,000 upwards. Choose the tier you are realistically comfortable with — not the lowest tier to make the budget look better than it is.
Step 3: Select preferred experiences (optional)
Pick any combination from the 12 experience chips. Selecting none returns all 25 destinations ranked purely by budget fit and trip type. Selecting specific experiences filters and reranks destinations by how well they match. Selecting Beach and Adventure prioritises Goa, Andaman and Rishikesh. Selecting Hills and Snowfall prioritises Manali, Shimla and Leh.
Step 4: Read the results for each destination
Each result card shows the estimated minimum-to-maximum cost, a visual bar breakdown of hotel versus food versus transport proportions, the specific hotel type recommended for your tier with the best area to stay in, every available activity with individual 2025 prices, must-see attractions and five money-saving tips. Activities are listed separately — they are not in the base estimate — so you can plan exactly which ones to include based on remaining budget.
Real Example: Exact Calculator Output
Enter these inputs yourself and the results will match exactly what the calculator shows.
Budget: ₹50,000 | Days: 5 | People: 2 | Tier: Economy | Features: Beach, Nightlife- Rooms calculated:ceil(2 ÷ 2) = 1 room
- Hotel:₹1,200 × 1 room × 5 days = ₹6,000 min • ₹2,500 × 1 × 5 = ₹12,500 max
- Food:₹500 × 2 people × 5 days = ₹5,000 min • ₹900 × 2 × 5 = ₹9,000 max
- Transport:₹400 × 5 days = ₹2,000 min • ₹700 × 5 = ₹3,500 max
- Total estimate: ₹13,000 min – ₹25,000 max
- Budget fit:₹50,000 covers this comfortably. Remaining ₹25,000–₹37,000 is available for activities, flights and shopping.
- Scoring:Goa features beach + nightlife + adventure + heritage. Matches beach + nightlife = fm 1.0. Goa is bestFor honeymoon = +0.15. Budget ₹50,000 well above ₹13,000 min = bs 1.0. Total score: 2.15 → Top Pick.
Budget: ₹20,000 | Days: 4 | People: 3 | Tier: Budget | Features: Hills, Adventure, Snowfall- Rooms calculated:ceil(3 ÷ 2) = 2 rooms
- Hotel:₹700 × 2 rooms × 4 days = ₹5,600 min • ₹1,200 × 2 × 4 = ₹9,600 max
- Food:₹300 × 3 people × 4 days = ₹3,600 min • ₹500 × 3 × 4 = ₹6,000 max
- Transport:₹400 × 4 days = ₹1,600 min • ₹600 × 4 = ₹2,400 max
- Total estimate: ₹10,800 min – ₹18,000 max
- Budget fit:₹20,000 covers the minimum comfortably. The trip is feasible — staying closer to the minimum by choosing Old Manali guesthouses keeps it within budget.
Note: ₹20,000 covers essentials. Paragliding (₹1,200–2,000/person) and Rohtang Pass (₹1,200–1,800/person all-in) would need an additional ₹5,000–₹12,000 for the group. Budget accordingly before finalising these add-ons.

Best Places to Travel in India on a Budget — Under ₹10,000 and ₹20,000
The most common question this travel budget calculator gets asked is where to go in India with a specific amount. Below are the most consistent answers to where to travel in India in budget — the two most-searched thresholds — all figures verified by the calculator at Budget tier for a single person for 3 days.
Rishikesh is the strongest option at this budget — guesthouse or ashram stay at ₹400–900 per night, food at ₹200–400 per day, and local transport at ₹200–400 per day puts the total at ₹2,400–₹5,100 for 3 days. Bungee jumping (₹3,500) and rafting (₹600–1,200) fit within the remaining budget.
Varanasi comes close — ghat-facing guesthouses from ₹500, food under ₹400 per day, and most iconic experiences like Ganga Aarti and sunrise boat rides are either free or under ₹500. McLeod Ganj, Hampi and Kasol all hit the ₹10,000 single-person 3-day window comfortably on the Budget tier.
Best for: solo travellers, backpackers, first trips, off-peak season travel.
Running this as a Rishikesh trip budget calculator: Rishikesh leads — ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 for 2 people over 5 days on Economy tier. Manali and Goa both sit at ₹13,000 to ₹25,000, meaning ₹20,000 covers the minimum with a small buffer. Agra, Shimla and Udaipur all come in under ₹15,000 at the minimum estimate for this configuration.
Andaman and Kerala stretch beyond ₹20,000 even at minimums for 2 people over 5 days, which is why the calculator flags them as tight at that budget. The tool handles this automatically — it shows the budget fitness indicator in green, amber or red for each destination based on your exact inputs.
Best for: couples, weekend getaways, short 4 to 5 day trips with one room.
Honeymoon Trip Budget India — What to Expect
Honeymoon trips in India get more expensive faster than any other trip type because expectations are higher and upgrades happen naturally at every point — a better room here, a private boat ride there. A realistic honeymoon trip budget India calculation needs to account for this. The Economy tier in this tool represents the minimum comfortable level for a honeymoon. Standard tier is more appropriate for most couples.
At the Economy tier for 7 days in Goa for 2 people, the essentials estimate runs ₹18,200 to ₹35,000. Add a scuba diving session (₹2,500–₹4,500 each), one sunset cruise (₹500–₹1,200 each) and a couple's Ayurvedic massage (₹800–₹2,000 each) and the total moves to ₹25,000–₹46,000 before flights. At Standard tier the same 7-day Goa honeymoon runs ₹30,500 to ₹61,000 excluding flights. Use the tool with your actual tier and budget to see which honeymoon destinations rank highest for your specific amount.
